School is a huge part of family and community life. It’s where our children spend their days; it’s where we gather to cheer on the home team, celebrate talent, and promote the pursuit of lifelong learning. Keep apprised of the news and events that affect your family right here on this page. We’ll update it regularly, so be sure to check back often.

Parking

Expect an increase in traffic on the first few days of school. We encourage families to walk, ride bikes, or park at Closter Commons. Plan accordingly!

As a reminder, numbered parking spots are reserved for Hillside School staff. Do not park in these spots even if they are open. Many staff members travel between schools or attend meetings outside Hillside School. Families are encouraged to park on local streets.

Schedule for the 2025–2026 School Year

This school year, we will follow a six-day rotation schedule labeled A through F days. This schedule is designed to enhance student learning, provide greater flexibility for support services, create consistent scheduling, and establish a predictable routine.

On the first day of school, teachers will share the specials schedule, which includes Spanish, science, art, music, physical education, library, and STEM. Specials will rotate based on the letter day. For example, if a student has Spanish on an A day, their first Spanish class will be on September 4, with the next one on September 12, continuing in the six-day cycle.

To help families stay organized, the letter day rotation calendar will be posted on our school website and displayed in the building. We encourage you to print a copy and keep it handy at home.

We know this change may take some getting used to, but it will improve collaboration, optimize resource use, and support a smoother learning experience for all.

Realtime Parent Portal

The Parent Portal will be open for completion of forms and viewing classroom assignments on August 19. An email will be sent to all families once it is opened. As a reminder, we will not be changing any student's classroom assignment.

Preparing for the First Day of School

You can now review student arrival and dismissal locations online. The first two days (September 4 and September 5), students will line up outside. Teachers will come to greet their students at 8:20 a.m. This allows students to become familiar with their teacher, peers, and arrival procedures.

Beginning Monday, September 8, all students will enter directly into the building following the assigned locations in the document. If the weather becomes an issue, we will let you know, and we will follow the schedule set to begin on September 8, with students entering the building at 8:20 a.m.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists are now available for the 2025–2026 school year. Make sure to have everything on your supply list to equip yourself for another great year.
